Client Frequently Asked Questions
What are the advantages of temporary lawyers?
Quality that you select as you define it, when you need it, and for only so long as you require it. We provide lawyers of the same quality as you would want for your permanent legal staff. We specialize in experienced lawyers in the practice areas you need.
How quickly can you react to my need?
Response time that is specific and dedicated solely to your purpose. Our goal is to meet your need. This may involve having qualified resumes in your hands within 24 hours. It may mean assembling a team of 10 or more lawyers ready to start your project as soon as authorizations are issued. After 20 years of addressing every imaginable need for temporary lawyers, we can fashion a solution to meet your expectations.
What happens if the assignment is cut short or goes longer than anticipated?
From the outset, Assigned Counsel’s staff works diligently to determine not only the expected parameters of the work, but also to gain insight on potential for the unexpected. This potential is part of the candidate equation – - can you stay longer and recognize that there are no guarantees as to the length on the assignment. The meaning to our clients is flexibility. Our temporary lawyers stay on the job only as long (or short) as they are needed.
Where do you find your lawyer candidates?
Assigned Counsel identifies top candidates by numerous methods. We advertise on the Internet, in law schools, and in legal publications. We tend, however, to find our best candidates by engaging in more personal recruiting methods. We have developed strong relationships of trust with our clients, and they are typically comfortable referring their friends and colleagues seeking assignments to us. During a company downsizing, merger, or acquisition, departing employees will seek assistance from us in locating new opportunities.
What does Assigned Counsel do with respect to background and reference checks?
Assigned Counsel checks professional references to ensure that the applicant actually did the work indicated on the resume and verifies the candidate’s law school degree and state bar membership.
Can the temporary attorneys be flexible as to the number of hours worked on a week to week basis?
Our desire is to have the placement match the need of our client. In instances of uncertain work flow or for activities that are recurring, but not constant, the temporary lawyer selected for the engagement will have the ability to craft a relationship which will be adaptive of the client’s requirements.
Explain your e-time tracking system and how this benefits the client?
Assigned Counsel® pioneered offering a “green” automated time reporting, approval and tracking system which is efficient, secure and saves time (the “Email Time System”). With the Email Time System, both the temporary lawyer and client-supervisor receive a secured password. When time reporting occurs, the temporary lawyer receives an email requesting time submission. Upon completing the form, the time is automatically forwarded to the client-supervisor who is the only person authorized to approve, or disapprove, the time. Once acted upon, the Email Time System automatically forwards the time to Assigned Counsel’s billing department. The Email Time System maintains a log of time, both on an interval and a cumulative basis.
What is the cost of a temporary attorney?
Typical costs for contract attorneys range on an hourly basis from $55 to $165. Our client pays only for on-the-job time.
